Weingut Robert Weil
Rheingau, Germany

Established in 1867, Weingut Robert Weil is a 90 hectare estate in Germany’s Rheingau region. Today the estate is run by the founder’s great-grandson, and head winemaker, Wilhelm Weil.

Although the Rheingau is one of Germany's smaller wine regions it is one of the most renowned. Following the course of the Rhine river, it is a marginal, cool climate, so the best vineyards are located on steep, southwest facing sites for maximum exposure to the ripening rays of the sun.

The estate's 90 hectares are planted solely with the Riesling grape variety. The vineyards are located on steep slopes in the foothills of the Taunus Hills with perfect southwest exposure to the sun. The estate practices sustainable viticulture in the vineyard: herbicides are not used, and only organic fertilizer is permitted. Cover crops are grown between the rows of vines to encourage biodiversity and all grapes are harvested by hand.

In the winery Wilhelm Weil uses a mix of stainless steel and old, large format oak vats depending on the style being produced.
